Wirtz International is a garden and landscape architecture practice based in Schoten, near Antwerp in Belgium. Jacques Wirtz started the practice here in 1950; today it is led by his sons Martin and Peter Wirtz. We design private gardens, business gardens, roof gardens, public space and the landscape of mixed-use developments, in Belgium and abroad. The gardens we design are built and maintained by Wirtz Tuinarchitectuur, the construction company of the Wirtz family, which works across the Benelux. Every design starts from what is already there: the levels, the existing trees, the climate and the place where each plant will thrive. Clipped forms, long sight lines and planting that holds up through all four seasons are what make the work recognisable. Among the best-known projects are Les Jardins du Carrousel et des Tuileries in Paris (1990–1991), The Alnwick Garden in Northumberland (from 1999) and Jubilee Park in London (2000).
